Overview
New York City's Fordham University, a Leader of Liberal Arts Universities, Offers More Than 60 Undergraduate Degree Programs
Fordham, the Jesuit University of New York, offers a distinctive educational experience that is rooted in the nearly 500-year-old Jesuit tradition of intellectual rigor and personal respect for the individual. A Fordham education blends a challenging curriculum with the resources, culture, and energy of New York City—a unique combination by any measure.
Fordham attracts international undergraduate students from 65 countries due to its high-caliber programs, low student-faculty member ratio, the care and attention of faculty members and support staff members, and location in the heart of the world's most stimulating city. Fordham is one of the finest colleges in NYC for international students.
With an undergraduate population of more than 8,000 students and unparalleled attention to each individual, Fordham University provides an intimate and caring setting that helps ease students' transitions into college life.
Fordham’s two liberal arts colleges offer more than 60 undergraduate degree programs in the humanities, the liberal arts, the performing arts, and the sciences, including majors such as political science, urban studies, dance, and Latin American and Latino studies. The Gabelli School of Business curriculum is grounded in the concept of “business with purpose,” preparing students to succeed in the business world while remaining ethically and globally minded. Students in all undergraduate colleges pursue a common core curriculum designed to provide them with a broadened appreciation of human values and a deepened commitment to the human community.
Multiple Campuses Provide a Variety of Options for Fordham Students
Fordham University's original campus in the beautiful Rose Hill area of the Bronx features magnificent Gothic architecture and wide expanses of green lawns. Nearly 3,700 of the 6,600 undergraduates at Rose Hill live on campus.
Fordham's Manhattan campus is located next to the world-famous Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, a cultural hub of professional symphony, opera, ballet, and modern dance companies and home of the renowned Juilliard School. At the Lincoln Center campus, more than 1,000 students live in the 20-story McMahon Hall and the new residence hall atop the new Fordham Law School building.
International Student Orientation Day and Resources at Fordham University
The Office for International Services (OIS) is a resource center for the university's international community and their interests. For international noncitizen students, the office facilitates their adjustment to life in the United States by assisting students in matters concerning immigration, such as visas, status, SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019 forms, employment, and travel authorizations. This office also provides international students with personal counseling, information on health insurance requirements and banking, and programs to promote cross-cultural and international understanding. The office also serves as a resource for the academic departments and administrative offices on immigration matters regarding international faculty members, researchers, and scholars. OIS also coordinates and administers Fordham's international faculty network and its pertinent events.
One of the greatest academic resources for students is our advising program. Faculty members serve as academic advisers, helping students choose stimulating courses from the core curriculum, decide on majors and minors, and take advantage of the wide array of intellectual opportunities Fordham has to offer.
Fordham's expansive library system is another invaluable resource for the student body. Fordham undergraduates find it easy to study and research any subject at the university libraries, which house more than 2.2 million volumes, as well as 57,000 journals, 439,000 full-text books, and 109,000 government documents online.
A Rich Campus Life
More than 160 student organizations offer a remarkable range of activities. Student life programming also capitalizes on the resources of New York City and its mosaic of cultural experiences. An extensive athletics program includes 23 varsity sports and a range of club and intramural sports. Reflecting the values-centered education that is a Fordham hallmark, students complete more than 1 million service hours annually.
Getting Around New York City
Fordham provides a regular, reliable shuttle service called the Ram Van for students traveling between the Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses. New York City also has an exceptional public transportation system that connects all areas of the city via subways and buses, making it easy for students without cars to travel quickly and safely.
Fordham Students Enjoy New York City's Four-Season Climate
Situated on the large and natural New York harbor on the northeastern Atlantic coast of the United States and the southeastern tip of New York state, New York City is the largest city and metropolitan area in the country. With a city population of over 8 million residents and a metropolitan area encompassing nearly 19 million residents, New York City is the most ethnically diverse city in the United States, and is home to a rich and vibrant immigrant population. The city consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
New York City summers are typically hot and humid with average highs in the low 80s. The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Snowfall in winter averages 24 inches. Spring and autumn are usually very pleasant with low humidity and mild temperatures. The sun shines an average of 234 days each year.
New York City's Cultural, Educational, and Entertainment Treasures
